Radical acceptance concept

Hi reset,

Radical acceptance is a concept within Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). This program mainly focuses on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), so we do not have any specific forms or information within the program about Radical Acceptance. However, I still encourage you to try to work with the concept if you feel it may be helpful to you. Radical Acceptance is more of a practised mindset. It is helpful to use when there is nothing more that can be done to resolve an issue. So really, any thought you have that is causing you discomfort, you can choose to radically accept the discomfort and situation. This allows you to move forward instead of being stuck in rumination.

In order to prevent confusion, you may want to focus on thought tracking within this program. Although it doesn't specifically focus on Radical Acceptance, some of the skills learned within the program can be helpful when trying to practice Radical Acceptance. For example, if we are limiting cognitive distortions and negative thinking, then we are more likely to naturally Radically Accept different feelings and ruminate less.

If you have any specific examples you would like to work on please feel free to share and I will do my best to help.

Thanks for posting,

Ashley

Hello,

I have seen some websites on the Radical acceptance concept. It sounds like a worthwhile effort to try it out.

However, I am lacking understanding how to apply that concept practically.

Is there any recommended way how to start working with "radical acceptance"? E.g. for which type of thoughts should that be used, which situations?

Are there any forms, sheets, templates you can recommend that would help structuring the available information?

thank you for any hints!
