Still no patches, and still quit. 4 of those things have left scars, I'm glad I took the approach I did. :D Thanks Jim.

Hey Taanoir!!!

That's great that you have been able to do so well sans the patch!  Way to go!!!  I think that I remember a thread a few years ago asking about the allergic reaction to the adhesive.  One recommendation was to  cut the adhesive part off and put the medication part under a band-aid or medical adhesive tape.  So, there are alternatives out there, but it may be possible that your skin just cannot tolerate the nicotine any longer.

In any case, if you can get along without, your are that much better off anyways!  Maybe by just keeping that Positive Mental Attitude and rejoicing in your freedom will be enough to keep the nico-demon at bay!!!  Yes, you are doing GREAT!!!

You sound so rational!  You may just be ready to go it alone : ) YAY for you Taanoir;  You're doing just great!  I agree with Vincenza et al here who responded. Don't forget to post if you're feeling unsure about where to go next - there are so many folks with great ideas to help you stay on track with your impressive quit!  We're here for you.  Keep up the excellent work : )  Eyja

Thank you for the responses, I'm using a generic prescribed by my doctor. I'm almost done (only 2 weeks of 7mg to go, then I'm off the patch alltogether). I'm still quit, and I think your right about the allergy to something (yesterdays broke out in a ring of small blisters at the edge of the medication area). I've had a few days on and off of forgetting my patch without incident or really any changes. I think I may just call it good. I've done a really good job at quashing my oral fixation so I don't want to start another oral habit, and Chantix isn't my bag. I'll still be here, posting, checking in per usual but I think it's come time to say adios to nicotine. I will go ahead and fill the last script (just in case, so there is no waiting). I will try to get into my Doc, but unless its an emergency, they drag butt about it (2 weeks is about standard), by then hopefully theses will be healed . The first one that came up is still a solid red circle from over a week ago, no longer swollen, but still tender.

Hi Taanoir,

It sounds like you may be having an allergic reaction.  I strongly recommend making an appointment with your doctor and discuss possible alternatives for your quit.  Stay strong!  We're here for you.

Try a different brand. I had a similar reaction and spoke with my doctor about this. She said that different manufacturers used different adhesive. Its the adhesive that's causing the problem not the replacement nicotine. Its an allergy I'm sure as it sounds so much like mine.
Don't go without the patch unless you're sure your quit is well protected- try another brand and see if it improves.

Hello Taanoir I remember having itching with the patch on one of my quits but nothing like you describe. You've come so far now to go back and there are so many alternatives these days. You could try going without the patch altogether or choose another delivery system ( lozenges , inhaler , gum , etc. ) I stopped smoking cold turkey and don't think I could have done it any other way IMO. Find what works for you. You've done so well so keep moving forward. Yay for you. breather

Sorry to hear you are having so many problems with the patch.  I've heard of lots of people who have allergic reactions to the patch.  I had problems with itching as well.   As Eyja said, changing brands may help, but I'd talk to a pharmacist first, then, if no good, see your doctor.

The main thing is to stick with it (if you'll excuse the pun!)   Nicodemon would just love to nip in and take over where the patch left off!
You are doing so well with your quit, it's such a pity there is a problem with your patches.  I hope your pharmacist can help soon.

Love Lolly.
