I have been out of town for a week which has created an additional struggle because vacation time seems to put me around more smokers and old situations in which I used to smoke.  My daughter is not with me on vacation and I have had a chance to re-center myself, make it through some challenging situations and still not smoke.  I know this will be a struggle for awhile, but for now I am managing all obstacles and still not smoking!  I am proud of myself.  Thanks for the support.

Jeni, you're in a struggle with your daughter. What would you teach her by letting her win?

Jeni I completely echo what everyone has said here.  Certainly you have reasons you quit for yourself, so it's time to look long and hard at those and get your head around what's happening now.  You smoking again won't get your daughter to stop.  You quit in part because you wanted to be a role model in not smoking.  If you started again, what kind of role model is that?  Not only would you be going back to behaviour you did NOT want to model but you would in effect be saying 'when things don't go your way it's ok to give up, and harm yourself in the process'.

You are angry, hurt, upset, the works.  Wrestle with those emotions but by all means find another way to deal with them.  Smoking again won't change a thing for the better and I think you know that.

I am so sorry this has happened.  Please pull yourself back up, whatever it takes.

Jeni, so sorry that your daughter put you in this situation.  I also have to agree with Lolly.  This quit has to be all about you.  You picking up a cigarette after 224 days won't make your daughter not smoke, it will only encourage her.  Helping to keep your daugher from not smoking isn't controlling, its being a good parent!  Post as often as you need, somebody is always around!

Hi jeniwho,

I am sorry to hear that you are having some difficulties with your daughter. Lolly makes a few really great points, keeping a quit going for more than 7 months shows really strong work and determination. You definitely deserve a pat on the back for the hard work you have done to date. Do stay strong and keep fighting!

We are always here for you jeniwho, lean on us for support.
