Deb, glad you were able to have bbq and fun with your little guy.  And glad you remained smoke free.  I wish I could invent a magic pill that would eliminate the addiction after day 1.  Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.  The journey to becoming a non smoker makes us stronger.  It makes us realize what is important to us.  And it truly is a journey.  Don't you just wish you could drive across your state and not hit a single pot hole, or get stuck in traffic, or not have to deal with a detour?  But you know, you become a more defensive driver avoiding pot holes, you learn how to use your gps and watch tv reports and avoid roads that have backups or accidents, and how many times does a detour take you down a street you have never been on?  And you find a new restaurant or the most fun store while taking a detour?  I'm all about those serendipitous moments!  And since today is 3/21, you are are 13 days smoke free.  13 is your lucky number today!  I wish you a smoke free weekend!

Thank you Ron,

I'm still checking in because this really did trigger me.  Thank you too for writing.  I went through with the BBQ for so many reasons.......   My little guy and I had a great dinner, great dessert, we played tickle fight, whose got the best shark story, who can bounce higher on the bed........

I am nearing the end of the self-centeredness of quitting.  I have been reading the posts lately, and promised myself that I would hold off for at least 2 weeks to honor my own quit.

I thank you all for being there for me.  I promise that I will be there for you too.

Ron, I promise you too I will not give in to the Nicodemon tonight.

Thank you for being there for me.

Deb,
This is just a little weekend jitters you are going through.  All week you are on guard and getting things done and then poof when the weekend comes up  the urges come on a little stronger, especially when you are associating relaxing and having a BBQ.  When I first quit I frankly did very little BBQ just because the smoke smell kind of leads to that association. It's kind of like drinking alcohol also.  It's probably best to just wait a little before going hog wild on the summer festivities.  In a month or so everything will change and you will not have so many triggers.  So just tell yourself you are going to keep it simple.  I'm a little late to respond but I would go out and do a little walk out on the neighborhood for 30 minutes and maybe that will calm the mind down a bit.  Whatever you do don't give in to that Nicodemon! We are all counting on you...R

Somehow I missed this thread -- Carolina BBQ??  It was invented when they decided that tomatoes were poisonous and determined that vinegar made the best BBQ sauce.  ::::ACK::::::  Vinegar goes on fish and chips and cleans windows.  The really good stuff goes into salad dressing.  It never, ever, should come into contact with red meat of any kind.  Ewwww.

Impalalama, I think I love you. :)

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  I have been checking in every 5 minutes because despite making light of it, I'm really having a hard time.  Thank you for helping me focus on the things I've gained, and not the (imagined) loss.

huge bear hugs

Hey, Deb.....great week!!!!!

Don't get too amped up over Texas.  It is too big and they think they know it all.  Texas BBQ isn't real.  Must go with Carolina BBQ for the true treat!!!!

Wash away the crave with some ICE WATER or Sweet tea.  Change up the routine a bit.  Still enjoy what you enjoy, but enjoy it more fully without nicotine.

Don't you just love how the flavors of the sauce are popping on the palate now that your tastebuds remember what they're supposed to do?

Have a SUPER tobacco-free weekend!!!!!

Not exactly, 'Help!'.... it's a little calmer than that, but if anyone is around to answer, it would be much appreciated.

I am getting very triggered by the weekend....  I wanted to BBQ tonight 'cause it's beautiful here today, I finally have the time to relax at home, and I just feel like it.  So I am.  And Mike got me all amped up with his three bar-b-ques.... I blame Mike.
And Texas.  I blame Texas too.  :)

It's lovely and nice, but I really want a cigarette too because that just usually goes with all of this.  So I'm just fighting off some annoying cravings and complaining.  I just want to enjoy the evening and I'm a little miffed that this issue is even there.  Entirely my fault it's there, mind you.  But still irritated that it's making it hard to relax.  I feel like after 12 days of fighting with this that it's time to relax!!  Sigh.

So I'm not smoking.  I can't complain about that.  Maybe I need to grab a straw and suck on that.  Or some sour grapes ;)

Thanks for listening.
d
