That's it exactly, "What was I thinking"? In reference to smoking when we were smoking we were probably thinking less than complimentary things concerning ourselves. Perhaps these were not conscious thoughts, but somewhere in our internal universe, we were thinking self-destruction, self denial or some other less than useful things about ourselves. I know I was anyway, I am the king of self repudiation, but I am getting better everyday and smoking cessation is an outward indication of that sea change...
