Every difficult situation you make it through leads you closer to a smoke free life, pretty soon you quit marking them, you know how you say to yourself - last time I did this I smoked? Now I don't even notice, because I no longer smoke. It took about 3 months for that to totally stop and it was so hard, but it is so worth it. -keep quitting, and protect your quit, if you think it is in danger, remove yourself from that situation. Be selfish now and it will payoff later, and reward yourself often. Gumdrop, Your friends here have given you very sound advice. All of get tested, that part of quitting. I know I am probably real late with this post, however I see this as a major opportunity for you. Just keep your poise, you don't have to smoke, observe other smokers, don't participate. You will be building character here. Go on out there and hit a home run for yourself! Gumdrop, plan ahead, have some hard candy or gum, water, straws, something to have in your mouth and remember to do the deep breathing if you find it tough. Take an inspiring post with you, just in case! If your friends are smoking, go somewhere else for a bit. Go talk to a non smoker for a few minutes! You are doing this for you. Be strong! Protect your quit! You will be so glad when you come back here smoke free! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 355 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,875 Amount Saved: $3,745.25 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 15 Mins: 34 Seconds: 1

Maybe keeping in mind that you are at a funeral and it's not yours cause you quit. That may help. I also carry a stressball with me, might look weird to some but gives my hands something to do, you could use anything for that matter. Also have a water bottle with you, that will help. Good Luck, Stay Strong and think of the people here and the site. Gumdrop How about enlisting someone to be your Quit Guardian? Someone you can go to at the funeral if you feel like smoking who will remind you that you are a non smoker now. Maybe especially your friend who smokes. Worked for me early in my quit. Also, you could print out a meaningful post from here and carry it in your pocket or purse, and read it if you feel like smoking. I'm one of those who believes that life does not stop when we quit smoking. Eventually we will face all kinds of situations, and if we really want to be quit, we will face them without smoking. And that is really the question; Do you really want to be quit or do you want to use this as an excuse to start again? There is no in between, because "just one" always leads to ten, a hundred, a thousand more. Gumdrop, I don't know if you are using a nicotine replacement, but if you aren't, don't start now. Don't add nicotine back into your body. By 8 days, your body is free of the nicotine and I would hate to see you introduce it back and have to go through withdrawal again. Don't prepare yourself for slipping. That's the best way to kill your quit. Do follow the other advice that others have given you. Tell your friends that you have quit smoking and you would appreciate their help. If you want to keep your quit, don't smoke. Gumdrop~~~as a recent non smoker, I can totally empathize with your situation. Go buy some Nicorette cinnamon surge gum (no, I don't work for the company, it was just the best for me). It saved me in those first few week situations that I knew in advance were going to be the hardest ones for me. I chewed that, I would tease about putting my "cigs" (gum paks) in my purse whenever I was around those people....but it worked!! The gum is a crutch, but hey, we can all use a little help now and then! I did not continue chewing it, in fact, I have about seventy dollars of it sitting in my medicine cabinet, but it really did help me. Also, try a little postive thinking. In your mind, keep thinking, "look at those smokers, wow, they really DO smell", or "my lungs are so much happier with me", "do they really think they look cool?", "I am so happy nothaving to hide out some where to smoke!" Whatever it takes to make it less appealing to you. I hope these suggestions help. Yep, it's hard, but believe me, you will be the stronger one of the group and you are a winner!!! Keep the Faith! I so know what you are going through. I quit almost 6 weeks ago and I just dont associate with smokers cause its hard. My b\f and I attended a banquet and had to leave early because the cravings were so nasty but the other day I had drinks with a g\f and I was ok. She went outside to smoke and I had no urge to join her. I THINK its because she said she was so proud that I was able to control my urges so I had to "pretend" that yep I was in control. I also have this elastic band in my pocket that I play with when I am anxious. I snap it, I twist it around my fingers, its just something to keep my hands busy and its not so distracting that I cant hold a conversation. No one sees it because its in my pocket. Its my little thing that helps. I also tell myself - not one puff, not one puff...if I take one then I will be a smoker and I am NOT a smoker.
