This may not be appreciated but I have to respectfully take exception with two statements posted here:
Seems easy for some people but I'm sure it's not. It's just them and not me.
Self-talk is a BIG part of what will shape your attitude about quitting. By saying, "I'm sure it's not [easy]" you may be talking yourself into making it harder than it needs to be. If possible, try to take each day as it comes without expectation.
I don't thing it's easy for anyone really. They have done it already.
We have done it already and are offering the best advice based on getting through those first hard days ourselves. That doesn't mean that we didn't have to work at it too but we lived to tell the story. There are a lot of people that will tell you they wished they had quit sooner because it wasn't as hard as they thought or as other people told them. Again, it was that expectation that made it harder.
I'm sorry if this somehow seems harsh or unsympathetic but having seen a number of folks come and go from this site, you learn a few things. Attitude and frame of mind cannot be downplayed. It does wonders for your success in quitting smoking and life! It may seem overly simple or not worth the effort but in my experience that is not the case.
Terry - my heart goes out to you during this stressful and emotional time and I want nothing but success for you in this quit.
DJ - you can do this just as much as any of us, we all got here one day at a time.
All the best,
Mean Martha :P
