Always Startled When Falling Asleep

Yes! Yes! I have that almost every night. It gets so bad that I stay up all night as well because I feel safer sleeping during daylight hours, for some reason. Besides the constant sensation of death, I now have these terribly vivid dreams. Dreams where my husband leaves me because my anxiety has not gone away (which he would never do). They seem so real that I am frequently woken up in the midst of a major panic attack. Help! Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I'm so tired of feeling crazy.

Not sure if it is the same thing, but I have had a few experiences like that over the last couple of years. In my case, I thought it was mild apnia (sp?)and I would wake abruptly in panic and my heart would race. Thankfully (knock on wood)I don't ever seem to have trouble falling asleep, so when it hits I just lay in bed thinking "that was strange" and then settle back to sleep. I try to look at it as my body thought something was wrong and woke me up. I figure it will wake me up again if it needs to. Good luck.

Has anyone tried to fall asleep on any given day (whether thay have had a lot of anxiety symptoms that day or not) and just as they are about to fall asleep get a weird sensation through their body. As if something startled them. If that happens to me more than once I automatically think I will lose consciousness when I fall asleep & die. So it ends up keeping me up all night. I usually get myself so worked up that even if I take my ativan..it doesnt work right away. Anyone have this problem?
