Well friend, the car was one of the THE MOST difficult places I had to overcome. I used Blow Pop suckers and chewing gum. Another strategy that I used was having a healthy snack (I ate a breakfast bar on the way to work). It's hard, but I promise, it does get a lot better. Hi, dream. I can't really add anything, all of what Casey said worked for me. I found just a small change made a big difference. That, and always having coffee straws to chew on in the car, probably saved my quit & a few lives on the road as well. Good luck with your preparations. It looks like you've given yourself lots of time, so you can try a lot of things if you like & do what works for you. Wow Dream, What a neat thing that you're preparing for your quit in advance like this. That's wonderful in itself... because you're learning valuable things about yourself before you dive in and you won't be sorry. Yes, it really does suck at first, and at different times throughout your quit, but you'll benefit from every single thought you put into it. Hmmm. Have you ever had a baby? If so, remember the breathing for labor pains?:)... I guess you could kind of pant from the car to your destination until you find something else pleasurable like... a pampering stop for good tea or coffee to sip on in the car instead? (Basically a distraction) Honestly, I've had some interesting "brainy no worky" situations behind the wheel from stopping smoking at times - but? usually I just had to remember to breathe:) Weird, ey? Each day is a decision, and it's for me... It feels so darn good to sign in still smoke free:) I know what it feels like to tell my buddies I screwed up too. The accountability helps because I know other people here who have been in the same situation and care... You will do well. Just believe in yourself and come here often for support. Ask anything... and let all the new knowledge push fears away until you bud into the new dream you're creating for yourself:) There's life after smoke:) xo, mamakitty Another thing I do to help myself in the car is to listen to stuff I personally like on my ipod. I download podcasts from radio shows on conquering clutter and positive thinking or whatever I find helpful - and listen to those if I need to. sometimes I just feel sassy, so I listen to loud sassy music if I'm stuck alone with my rebellious self, or? I take kids to science or art exhibits and hang out in the gift shop My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 41 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 615 Amount Saved: $153.75 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 7 Mins: 24 Seconds: 5

Dream, my hubby decided the best way was to face them head on, so 7-10 days into our quit he had us in a smokey raw bar. I cried. Isn't he mean??? :) He posts here too. We were on vacation during hell week, wouldn't recommend it, but he took us everywhere we used to go as smokers and we faced it as non-smokers. In hindsight, we got it out of way, and I was glad for it later. As for your car, get it washed, put some air freshener in it, etc....crank tunes, do something different....drive a different way, and know that each day you are putting great distance between your old rituals and new healthier ones.
