Ahhh, the infamous donut holes... I know, it's so friggin hard. I have been so hungry since I quit. I have been eating carrots and celery, I feel like a rabbit. I can't wait for my lungs to feel all clean and new!!! Trish, For the first few weeks your lungs may feel much worse than when you started- the cilia in them which was flattened by the toxins in cigarette smoke are beginning to come back to life- loosening the tar and making you wheeze as the cilia attempt to expel the tar. The burning you feel is good- it means your lungs are starting to work and are taking in clean oxygen!! Just wait till those cilia are all healed up, you will feel (and look) like a brand new person, I promise, and if you keep up your excellent work, you should be able to pummel that treadmill for SIXTY minutes!! Great work and congratulations!!! Cheers! ;) 2stub My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 291 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,201 Amount Saved: $1,030.14 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 4 Mins: 51 Seconds: 22

Donut holes. They brought donut holes in to work. I think those are 3 points a piece (Weight Watchers). Why do they have to corrupt me? I keep promising myself I am not going to gain weight with this quit! So far I have gained nothing - but I have not lost anything either. I had M&Ms last night instead of a cig. Hopefully the M&Ms are not a point an M. Ha ha! mamakitty, Thanks for the words of wisdom. I am happy to report that I can run for 6 minutes straight on the treadmill as of today. It mightnot sound like much of an accomplishment, but I could only do 2 minutes as of Monday. My lungs still feel like I am breathing fire, but I am sure it will subside in due time. Hi Trish, Congratulations on your quit! It sounds like you're doing just great and getting lots of primo advice here:) I wanted to share with you that my lungs still feel strange as they're healing and when I exercise, but I feel so much better. When I smoked, I didn't have the opportunity to actually enjoy exercise. Smoking took the place of it. I couldn't enjoy it. I hope you can find a good groove as you're carving out the new and real you:) It's not easy, but it's right. Sometimes it helps for me to think of smoking as just a really bad accessory that I don't want anymore:) Chimney's are for fireplaces:) xxx-ooo, mk My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 44 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 660 Amount Saved: $176.00 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 14 Mins: 41 Seconds: 50

Sparky, Thanks for the advice! I am just doing what I can for now. I went back to the fitness center yesterday and tried again. It still hurt, but I plan on working my way up. Thanks again! Trish, Welcome to the SSC and congrats on 11 days! Start slow with the exercise and start making healthier choices in terms of diet. Weight gain among quitters isn't uncommon but it is temporary! Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist
