One more thought...I'm no longer researching my anxiety...I'm not reading books or articles or looking for answers on the net. I've realized that the answer lies within myself, NOT OUTSIDE myself. I've convinced myself that I, alone, allowed this BAD habit to dominate my life for awhile...and I DON"T like it...so when I fight any negative thought that cause the resulting feelings, I'm that much stronger the next time...and I feel more and more NORMAL each day.

I believe that over time, IT WILL...It's like we get into a bad habit of thinking negative thoughts which then produce negative feelings. IF YOU LEAVE NO ROOM for negative, what are you left with? It takes practice (because it's BECOME A HABIT, as I said) BUT it IS possible...the minute I begin to feel negative, I do EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING to NOT acknowledge it...the harder it pushes, the harder I push back...YOU are essentially retraining your brain...A NEW HABIT. If it means humming...if it means changing the channel on the radio..or thinking about dinner......I DO WHATEVER IT TAKES...or simply tell myself...NOPE NOPE....don't have time for this anymore...I have even thought about the Rocky movie, when Stallone was being beat up...."Not so bad, not so bad...that all you got?" IT works, but the temptation is to give up the fight...giving up the fight....is for me, backsliding...and I'm determined NOT to backslide. IT DOES become easier...with practice...I would also remind you that in the worst cases, I start with breathing first...then my imagery... I imagine myself doing successfully and comfortably what ever it is I mean to do.... it's the complete opposite of what YOU just described...If you don't have a radio station you can change...then CHANGE WHAT YOU DO HAVE..THE ONE IN YOUR MIND......each and every time..... :)

Kitcat If I think postively will the anxiety leave me. Sometimes I think so negatively about school the anxiety level builds so high I get nervous. I think this is the core of my problem I am preparing for the negative so I will not feel so bad what do you think?

53 runner. Good for you....always remember you have the choice of replacing those negative thoughts with positive ones. Feelings are just feelings...they can't hurt us unless we give them power. The more you can push those useless feelings down and replace them with useful ones, the less power they will have. You do know that it's ourselves who give them that power in the first place? We can just as easily take that power away. I believe it's what we *think* in the first place that results in *feelings.* If we *think* xyz....the feelings are sure to follow. So think of xyz....as positive positive positive and don't allow *anything* to take their place. YOU DO have the power.!! :)

ANYTIME spent focussing away from Panic/Stress would be beneficial. Meditation involves that same focus...combined with breathing. I can't emphasize enough how correct breating encourages the entire body to relax. Also oxygen fuels the brain so it makes sense. Do you still run? I do, most everyday, and meditating may be similar to running. When I'm done, I feel tired, but a good tired...I feel renewed...feel like I've let go of the day...It's a mind game, in my opinion....that we have learned to play well. When we change the rules, at first the bodyand mind may rebel, but eventaully it learns there is no need for the those old rules, and they really didn't help us at all...In fact, made it worse....Does that make sense?

Dear Kitcat It sure is nice hearing from you.You always have a way of making me feel better. I just spent an hour meditating on the word relax that helped a lot. I am next work on positive thoughts. Why do you think meditation helps? I sure would like your thoughts on this.

Hey 53runner Glad that your wife has come through the surgery. Seems like now she may be headed down the road to recovery. Hope she continues to do well. It must be very stressful for you and your family. But such is life and we need to press forward. I think you are focussing more on your anxiety than trying to focus on the things that are positive in your life. While meds may help you get through the tough times, there will be other tough times. It's part of living this life. To me, and please don't take this wrong, it's more about choice. If you continue to dwell on it, I doubt it will ever really go away. If, however, you choose to replace those negative thoughts with positive ones...well then the positive ones will grow and replace the negatives. If, however, you never give the positive ones a chance, chance is the negative thoughts will simply take over. Think for just a moment, about how much time you spend in one day, or for that matter, even one hour thinking about your anxiety. If you spent equal or MORE time focussing AWAY from your anxiety, and on positive things in your life.. well, you get the idea. It's called distraction, and the more you practice it, I believe, the more normal it becomes. Until there's just no room anymore for the negative. Sure, it will be difficult at first to FORCE yourself NOT to give any power to your panic........but think of this.......how EASY or comfortable is it to focus the majority of your time ON YOUR PANIC/ANXIETY....???? WHICH do YOU choose? :)
