Do your children know?

Hey Boardwalk, This is a tough situation, ain't it! I have a 10 year old son, and my wife and I have explained as best we can about my panic attacks. I'm not sure if he really understands how devastating my attacks can be at times, but he DOES understand that I don't feel well! I feel bad sometimes that I miss out on some of his activities, ie, ball games, trips, etc., but he knows that I'm just not capable sometimes. He is very supportive, and NOT AT ALL ASHAMED of his dad! I think you should do your best to try to explain your condition to your son, try to answer any questions he has, but most of all, ASSURE him you love him and need him!!! I think you'll feel better once it's out in the open. I hope this helps! Good Luck!

Hi all, I'm 38 and have had panic in one form or another for 3o years now. I have a 7 year old son, and I hide it from him. To other parents: have you told your kids about your situation? What did you say? How did they react? I'm scared he will be ashamed of me. He's already in that phase of "don't kiss me at the bus stop." This is really weighing heavy on my mind, so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
