Hi Jim, My tastebuds and my sense of smell suddenly awoke after the first week of my quit. Everything started to taste that much better and I my sense of smell had heightened.. wasn't too pleased with certain smells..lol.. I am battling a depression - and am on med's for that.. but this depression (which is under control) was present before my quit. Did my depression get worse due to quitting? Yes. Did I seek further help with that? Yes. However, as my doctor said, the depression from the quit should ease up within a month of my quit and if not we'll deal with that when the month is up. I always keep my mind and body in check with my doctor. Be patient.. take baby steps, one moment at a time. Your friend, Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 27 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 545 Amount Saved: $243 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 23 Mins: 24 Seconds: 59

For me, first there is a lot of anger and then as that trails away, I feel depressed for a long while. I am approaching 6 weeks and the depression seems to be fading away as my brain is now generating its own happy chemicals. It takes a while but eventually you'll feel normal again. Did not lose my taste but my son was very depressed and I was mildly depressed the first few weeks we quit smoking. Like anything else, it will come to pass. Keep up the good work and take care, carole My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 66 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,668 Amount Saved: $528 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 6 Mins: 43 Seconds: 20

Ah Geeeeeeeeeee Jim...you are starting too early...depression isn't supposed to come around till about the 3rd week - Maybe you are getting them all done at once. My brain has never functioned properly but I think my taste buds are intact. jaset, perhaps you should see your doctor for some wellbutrin. While its not going to solve every problem for you it will help with the depression feeling. I've had other circumstances in my life that have made me feel sad, but I know that overall its been a much better journey with it then it would have been without. Unfortunately I am one of those people and finally 4 months into my quit realized I needed something and FAST. Its difficult to admit but when I walked around crying for no reason or snapping for no reason figured it was time to start taking care of the "hidden" problems that I didn't see until I quit smoking. It has helped me tremendously. I still cry once in a while but not the blwon out crud when I got ticked off for my hubby eating an entire box of cereal in one sitting. Oh thanks to Kaitilina, she bumped that hilarious posting. I was only a few into my quit so I do not remember that because I was so "out of it". Jaset, you need to take care of YOU and start pampering yourself and see a doctor if you think something my be wrong. Don't diagnose yourself because we all love doing that and we usually diagnose wrong. Hugs to you my friend. I can say this, it does get better!! Jim, my taste buds completely changed. First of all, they woke up! Then I lost my taste for really sweet things, and I wanted lots of cinnamon, raisins, and spices. I wanted tea instead of coffee. Carbonated drinks were too strong for my tongue. I think nearly everyone goes through a depression of some sort. Some times it's just the blues for a few days, other times it lasts longer. Just bear with it all...stay close by and let us know how you're doing.
