Chris, day 3 is a tough one - I agree. I've quit for long periods before (long story about my failings) and my experience is that the first week is worst and then slowly it tapers off.
My coping mechanisms mostly have to do with denying myself very little of anything I might want to eat, not pushing myself to work too hard and most of all, excersizing. I have excersized twice a day for the last three days. Excersize, for me, is sort of "reboots" my craving for smoking almost like sleep reboots the brain (knits up the ragged sleeves of care).
If you at all like to excersize, I suggest you give that a try as often as you can during the first month of quitting.
You also did probably the smartest thing of all, which is to come here for support and ideas.
