Nanny and all, for some reason some of us do gain weight after quitting, no matter what we do. I think it must have to do with genetics, age, and so many other things. Please don't hate yourself when you look in the mirror. Try a few other things --
1. If you've been doing the same exercise routine every day, change it. They say that a slight shift can get your weight loss off its plateau. In other words, if you're walking every day, try swimming or some strength training once or twice a week.
2. I found that I couldn't lose any weight at all until I started strength training plus cardio. Just two sessions a week with weights or machines can mean a pound or two a week.
3. Use sites like sparkpeople, 3fatchicks, or fitday to really monitor what you eat. I found out that I wasn't getting enough calories, believe it or not. Too few calories can mean your body wants to hold onto the fat it has -- starvation mode. When I went up a little, my weight started to come down.
4. Talk to your doctor, nurse, dietician, or personal trainer to help you design a plan for yourself and your own issues.
5. Forget fad diets and diet aids. Instead pay attention to the quality of food that you are eating.
6. Drink lots and lots of water.
7. Be patient. Unfortunately, it takes time to lose weight. And some weeks you won't lose any, and then all of sudden three pounds are gone.
8. Reward yourself. Just like when you quit smoking, non-food rewards when you have a day of clean eating can really keep you motivated.
9. Look for NSVs -- non-scale victories. The scale is only one measure and it can be a very misleading one at that. The scales are not your friends.
10. Don't go back to smoking thinking you will lose weight. You won't and it isn't worth it.
